I had dinner solo at Mariscos San Pedro on my last night in Chicago. First, I love that they will allow you to make a reservation for a solo diner, because a lot of places won't. Second, I love that they gave me the option of sitting at the bar or at a table. If possible, I always opt for a table, because I usually don't want to be chatted up by other solo diners, especially not after a long day at the convention center. I had come in with a sort of game plan, but my waiter ended up talking me into more food than I had originally planned. The peer pressure! I ended up cutting stuff in half and then taking it back to eat in the hotel room much later (I had a 5:45pm reservation). I had: - Hokkaido Scallop Ceviche with Jamaica, Pina, and Serrano - Tuna Tostada with Black Garlic, Salsa, Macha, and Avocado - Taco Trio with Shrimp Gobernador, Baja Fish, and Andrew's Plantain taco - Tamal con mole with duck and sesame - Flan with vanilla and maracuya The favorites was the Tuna Tostada, the Shrimp Gobernador Taco and the Flan. The Tuna Tostada was fresh, vibrant, and flavorful. The Shrimp Gobernador Taco was so tasty - essentially grilled cheese with shrimps and then thrown into a corn tortilla. I would order a whole order of this next time. The flan was very good - very jiggly, but also I loved the passion fruit sauce on top. I love the contrast between the tartness of the passion fruit and the sweetness of the flan itself. Service was, of course, great. It wasn't full at 5:45pm on a Sunday night, but by the time I left around 7pm, it was packed to the gills. Definitely make a reservation if you're looking to eat around dinner time.
First time here. Party of four. Sunday brunch. The service seemed too slow considering the place was practically empty. We had to ask for our water to be refilled after a long wait - our empty water glasses and cocktail glasses sat on the table for a long time before we spoke up. The food was decent, not spectacular. The cocktails were decent, not spectacular. The servers were all very nice. There was a single chair placed at the outside of our booth which made it difficult to get in and out and our table had a large split / gap in the wood where it was coming apart. I expected a lot more but I would like to return for dinner sometime. Maybe the brunch isn't a good representation. I heard from a friend I trust that the food was phenomenal and that they were nominated for a Michelin star so I would like to return at least once more to try their dinner menu.
Great tacos - I had the lobster, the fried fish and the "award winning" taco - all were delicious. I was less impressed by the appetizers (especially the sardines) and the alcohol menu was also not as great. Still, good experience overall. Would recommend.
We had an absolutely wonderful dinner at Mariscos San Pedro last night. Our second visit and it was even better than the first. We were sat at a very private table that felt very romantic (it was Valentine's day) and the service was friendly and efficient. The Torre de Mariscos was amazing, a lovely combination of tuna, octopus, lobster, scallops, kampachi and avocado served with tostados and 3 sauces. It was the best thing we've eaten in quite a while, the fish was so fresh. We also tried the lobster and crayfish quesabirria and we would definitely order it again, very tasty. We had a lovely sparkling wine from Mexico and a really good margarita. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Absolutely fantastic time here! I went with friends because we wanted to try alot of the menu and everything was so good!! Unique and complex flavors, great service and even half off wine bottles on Mondays! Ambiance is chill and makes for a fun environment with friends!
Finally tried Mariscos San Pedro and it was delicious. Even for someone with a seafood allergy, there were so many good dishes I could eat like the breakfast tacos, pan de elote, flan, empanadas and burrito. The empanadas were really tasty with an unbeatable combo of ham and cheese. The burrito was delicious (ordered without the shrimp) and burritos should always include fries. The sauces paired great as well, particularly the hot sauce. But the breakfast tacos were delicious. Unconventional in their presentation but so delicious with a layer of fried cheese on the tortillas and a thick piece of chorizo paired so well with the egg cheese and avocado. HIGHLY RECOMMEND these. My table also ordered some seafood items and loved them all, including the tuna tostada, fish and shrimp tacos, and the plantain taco. Really looking forward to going back to try some of the dinner items.
Fresh sardines tostada - more on the salty side but the pistachio mole helped balance out the saltiness, sardines were fresh Snapper ceviche y aguachile - the crunchiness of the coconut gave it a surprising texture and the server pours the leche de tigre around the dish Octopus sonoran dog - octopus was cooked perfectly and the salsa macha gave it a nice kick to it, wrapped in a texas toast like bread Shrimp gobernador taco - the shrimp is wrapped in a crispy Monterrey Jack cheese roll which gave it a surprising crunchy texture and it's on the tortilla topped with onion, avocado, and chimichurri Andrew's plantain taco - the taro was very settle, the plantain flavor overpowered it, not sure what the green stuff was, the sauce (cucumber, cilantro) that came with it gave it a nice kick Mango citrus sorbet helado - they give you one perfectly big round scoop, texture is a mixture of sorbet and ice cream, creamy yet light, very refreshing "Masa"ron - a blue macaron and the filling was very interesting, price was expensive for one macaron ($4) and it was underwhelming Special cocktail drink (forgot what it was called, on the special drink menu) - tasted like horchata with rum Overall, the ambience and decor are really nice and the food was very unique. More on the pricey side. Dishes on menu are meant to be shareable plates. Will come back to try their other drinks and menu items. Saw the whole fried fish served at other tables and it looked amazing. Location is where Dusek's used to be and right next to Thalia Hall.
Such a cute and yummy restaurant in Pilsen! I love the interior of this place. We went for brunch around noon on a Saturday. There was plenty of seating. We got the tinto de verano which to drink. It was very refreshing. Almost like a more light, tropical sangria. To eat we got the tuna tostada, California burrito, and the blue corn tlacoyo. The tuna tostada was delicious! The tuna tasted very fresh and had a good texture. I really enjoyed the black garlic on it paired with the citrus garnish. The base wasn't too crumbly so it wasn't a big mess to eat which was nice. The California burrito was great also. The shrimp was very fresh and there were nice large pieces throughout. The star of the burrito was actually the steak for me which was deliciously seasoned! I would maybe add a tiny bit more pico, but still was delicious. The aioli on it was great. The tlacoyo was also really yummy. It's a great option if you want something with black beans for breakfast. The service here was also wonderful. Very attentive and nice. I hope to come back to try more! Giving this place 5 stars because I think the ingredient quality/prep is above and beyond here. Everything tastes very fresh and high quality, and they don't skimp on the cuts of protein!
An absolute blast with fantastic food and drink. We closed this place down with some of our friends and it was one of the best meals we've had in a long time. Adorable atmosphere with a menu cute enough to stick in your head for a long time. Baja Fish tacos : 5/5, crunchy, salty, with a well-balanced crema and slaw. This was absolutely delicious and I think I could put down 20 if I put my mind to it Coctel ceviche: 5/5, Bright and citrusy with an herbaceous, delicious tomato base and fresh seafood of course. This was a hit on the table. Achiote Butter oysters: 4/5, truly the epitome of gluttony in the best possible way. These delectable small bites were easy to go down and certainly as rich as can be Whole dorade: 5/5, I'd give this 6/5 if possible. Absolutely delicious with a green salsa on one side and red on the other. Paired with house made tortillas and plenty of sauces, this main course was absolutely incredible. Overall 5/5, of course I'll be back for seconds
